Avante Expands Metallic Product Portfolio to Offer High Specific Gravity, High Impact PP-Based Formulations for High-End Product Applications

Latest News:Avante announces its Gravi-Tech™ on November 2
New high impact polypropylene (PP) based products have been added to the high specific gravity product portfolio. Designed to replace die-cast or machined metal, this innovative hybrid product technology provides a metallic look and metallic heft to premium brands requiring high impact resistance. Applications include personal care products such as oral care, skin care and cosmetic packaging that require increased gloss and feel on metal surfaces, enhancing product texture and value by enhancing visual appeal.

To meet people’s demand for a luxurious appearance and a low-cost metal alternative, the new Gravi-Tech formulations have passed rigorous drop tests and have excellent ambient and low temperature impact resistance. The material can be directly injection molded, has good flow properties and excellent impact strength, is perfect for complex thin-wall injection molded products, and offers excellent design and processing flexibility. In addition to pre-color options and application-specific finishes, the new Gravi-Tech materials are available in a variety of special product specifications to meet vacuum metallization needs.

“We are seeing a growing demand for high-density injection molding solutions that enable brands, designers and manufacturers to achieve more complex designs than metals, creating premium end-points with a sense of weight. products, and make them meet higher impact strength requirements,” said Xu Tao, general manager of Avante’s Special Engineering Materials Division in Asia.
“Our new high-impact Gravi-Tech formulations can be tailored to customer needs and can be as light as plastic or up to four times as heavy as aluminum, with extremely uniform weight distribution. Due to the good flow properties of this injection-molded material , complex finished components can be produced in a single processing step, which also simplifies assembly.”

Finished components can be injection molded without further assembly and post-processing, which saves a lot of energy and thus reduces the carbon footprint of the finished product. In addition, the use of pre-pigmented Gravi-Tech materials also avoids potential volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that are emitted during painting.

The Avante Gravi-Tech material portfolio combines the aesthetics of metals with the excellent processability of thermoplastics. Solutions for different substrate resins are currently available, such as polypropylene (PP), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS), polyamide (PA), polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), etc. These materials can be produced in Asia and available worldwide.
