LANXESS will present at the world’s largest plastics and rubber trade fair K in Düsseldorf under the theme of “Quality, Excellence”
2022. From October 19th to 26th, the specialty chemicals company will present material developments and new processes and technologies for the plastics industry at booths C76-C78 on 700 square meters in hall 6. In addition, LANXESS will present sustainable products and system solutions for the rubber and polyurethane industries as well as colorants and intermediates for the polymer sector.

LANXESS is focusing on e-mobility and sustainable development the theme of this year’s fair. Dr. Feng Hubo, member of the LANXESS Board of Management, said: “We want to play an active role in the transformation of the economy and global value chains, thereby contributing to a sustainable world. We support our customers with our materials to make more carbon Sustainable products with a lower footprint that help protect resources and the climate.”

High-performance plastics and system solutions

The Performance Materials business unit focuses on sustainable materials and lightweight solutions. The main areas of interest are materials and components for stabilizing lightweight structures in the future e-mobility market, such as the Tepex brand for passenger car batteries. Lightweight structural components made of continuous fiber-reinforced composites.

In addition, the business unit will showcase new Tepex composites based on recycled or bio-based raw materials. Just launched Tepex dynalite Scopeblue made of flax fiber and PLA
813 is one of them. Also on display will be a Tepex dynalite with a polyamide 6 matrix, which is made from “green” cyclohexane and therefore has a sustainable raw material content of more than 80%.

Another focus of the business unit is to provide customized solutions to meet the higher requirements of e-mobility on the powertrain or charging infrastructure. In this area, plastic parts are often exposed to higher temperatures, while also being subjected to very high currents and voltages. Take plastic connectors, for example, which must maintain electrical isolation under high temperature, high current or high voltage conditions and must not generate creepage currents. For these high-voltage connectors, LANXESS has developed a new halogen-free flame-retardant, hydrolytically stable PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) compound.

Sustainable Products for the Polyurethane Industry

The Polyurethane Systems business unit will present its extensive product range for the polyurethane industry. These products are designed to improve the sustainability of the entire value chain. Innovative Adiprene from low free (LF) monomer technology and high biobased content
The range of Green brand prepolymers to new hot casting and cold curing systems with lower processing energy consumption is extremely wide. The business unit also focuses on designing water-based coatings that meet the high demands of modern automotive interiors.

Add modifier Modulast
PUR can process thermoplastic polyurethanes more efficiently in CASE (coatings, adhesives, sealants, elastomers) applications, and can also maintain or even improve physical properties while reducing the amount of polyol and isocyanate, which can significantly reduce the overall cost of raw materials. At the same time, thanks to lower temperatures during processing, the entire production process can also be made more efficient, thus reducing cycle times.

Products for coloring plastics

The Polymer Additives and Inorganic Pigments business units of LANXESS provide the plastics industry with high-performance, sustainable colorants for direct coloration. During the fair, the two business units will present their product ranges for the energy-efficient production of coloured plastic products that do not require subsequent painting and therefore avoid rework. These products include both general-purpose products and special products for specific requirements.

For example, in the field of e-mobility, one of the mandatory safety features of high-voltage plastic parts is the appearance of orange, and Macrolex Orange
This is where HT comes into play. The product’s comprehensive properties meet the high safety and performance requirements of e-mobility, including excellent thermal stability, increased resistance to sublimation, as well as high migration stability, color strength and light fastness.

Efficient flame retardants for polymers

With brominated and phosphorus-based solutions, LANXESS’s Polymer Additives business unit offers the world’s most comprehensive portfolio of organic flame retardants. Polymeric and reactive flame retardants reduce the release of additives from polymers and contribute to the protection of the environment and health without compromising fire safety. Brominated flame retardants are highly effective and are therefore widely used in the construction and electronics industries. In addition to efficient fire performance, phosphorus-based flame retardants offer other advantages, such as good processability and high elasticity in PU and PVC systems.

Additives for rubber processing

The Rhein Chemie business unit will present a range of additives for the rubber processing industry. These products include pre-dispersion chemicals, processing accelerators, and vulcanizing and filler activators. In the spirit of promoting sustainability, the business unit will focus not only on rubber production, but also on the design and manufacture of high-quality, durable rubber products for a range of applications including tires, hoses, seals, profiles, drive belts and more. Service life is an important indicator to measure the sustainable performance of rubber products. With additives such as Perkalink and Vulcuren from LANXESS, tire manufacturers are able to develop and produce compounds for tires that ensure ultra-high performance over their entire service life.
