Polyurethane manufacturer Kimpur: Using PET recycling + bio-based polyester polyol to make environmentally friendly slippers

Latest News:Turkish polyurethane producer Kimpur continues to take new steps to create a sustainable future. The chemical industry company has successfully obtained polyester polyols from PET waste. 17% of the slipper material is made of this polyester polyol, and an additional 20% of polyester polyol obtained from bio-based raw materials is used. Launched at the TANNING TECH exhibition, it will lead the industry in producing slippers with an elastic structure obtained from PET waste for the first time.

According to 2021 data from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, collecting 41 tons of waste plastic for recycling can reduce 1 kg of greenhouse gas emissions, save 66% of raw materials and save 5 kilowatts of energy (774%). Based on these important data on nature conservation and sustainable development, Kimpur, one of the largest manufacturers of polyurethane systems, synthesized polyester polyols from waste PET bottles and carried out industrial trials in the production of slippers, which were in line with existing standard systems. Than, the physical and mechanical properties of the final product will not be affected. Kimpur implemented the project ‘Synthesis of polyester polyols from waste PET bottles and their commercial use in polyurethane systems’ at the 80th R&D project organized by the Istanbul Chemical and Chemical Products Exporters Association (IKMIB) in 2021 Awarded in the selection, it is a sustainable and circular project. And has taken a pioneering step in the actual production of the product.

With elastic structures made from this polyester polyol, we are breaking new ground in this field and we are delighted to have taken a groundbreaking step in our field with this product. ”
